Frequently Asked Questions

How does NEINICE work?

During the process of ice formation, the cool liquid striking the blade surface causes the release of heat by the PCM (phase change material) infused coating. The PCM structures undergo solid-solid phase change and the temperature of the coating surface increases. The effect minimizes bonding of the ice to the coating.

How long do the coatings last?

Infield studies have demonstrated a lifecycle of 3-4 years depending on the frequency and severity of weather events. We recommend that customers monitor the coating to ensure performance and develop a reapplication cycle that fits their needs.

Will coatings interfere with the power generation of my PV?

No. Studies conducted by Phazebreak have indicated that solar panels continue to operate at the same efficiency as their uncoated counterparts, while getting all of the benefits of the chosen coating.

Is NEINICE/SurfaceSlip an LEP coating?

No. Our coatings do no act as LEPs. That doesn't mean they offer no protection to airfoils, however, their primary purpose is to keep ice/dirt from accumulating on the surface.

Can the coatings be applied over my LEP/LPS/Heating System?

Yes. Our coatings can be applied atop all existing LEPs, have shown to be resistant to lightning damage, and can work in conjunction with heating systems.

Can the coatings be applied year-round?

Our coatings need to be applied in dry conditions above 0° Celsius/32° Fahrenheit. As such, our typical application season runs from April through October.
